Q. D. Wood

Q.D. Watts Wood passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston. She was born June 5, 1923 in Tango, Lincoln County, WV to the late Roxie Stone Watts and Glen Watts. She lived in St. Albans for 88 years. Preceding her in death were her husband of 61 years, Alvin Jackson (Jack) Wood, sister, Janet Carbaugh, brothers, John and Leman Watts. She is survived by four daughters; Jackie Evans (Jim), Sarah Wood (Martha), Terri Wilson and Susan Knox. She also leaves grandson, Chris Harris and granddaughter, Kim Dieckhoner (Todd) and great granddaughters, Grace and Ellie Dieckhoner. Special friends were Charlie Tuit and Bonnie George. Jo Pittsenbarger was a wonderful neighbor and friend. She and Mom had a special bond. Q.D. was very active in politics at the local and state level. She served on St. Albans City Council, worked in Jay Rockefeller’s office and with AARP. She was proud to have been a Rosie the Riveter and raised funding for the Rosie Park in St. Albans. She volunteered with various projects over the years, to help the city of St. Albans. She retired from the State of WV. Q.D. loved living in St. Albans and always welcomed visitors to her front porch. She had a great sense of humor and loved nothing more than being with friends and family. She was always open to new experiences. These last 11 months, she lived at Bellaire at Devonshire. Living there renewed her spirit and added to her life. The family would like to thank the staff and aides at Bellaire, Dr. Jack Kinder and Hubbard House staff for the care and kindness they showed Mom. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 10th at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans with the Rev Joel M. Harpold officiating. Burial will be at Teays Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
