Brian Alan Cavender

Brian Alan Cavender, 55, of Saint Albans, WV ascended to heaven with his family by his side on Wednesday March 21, 2024, at Ruby Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Brian was born June 22, 1968, in Charleston WV to the late Walter L. Cavender and Karol A. Cavender. Brian was a Christian by faith. Brian was a devoted companion of 27 years to Catherine Wiseman; and loving father to Logan Wiseman of Saint Albans. Besides Catherine and Logan, he is also survived by his mother Karol, brothers: Steven and Pam (Point Pleasant) and Christopher (Cross Lanes), nephews: Justin (Amber) Cavender, Ian Shamblen, niece: Whitney Shamblen, great nephews: Easton Cavender, Liam Shamblin, great nieces: Layla Jordan and Gabby Shamblen. Brian was a graduate of Nitro High School, class of 1986. He graduated from West Virginia State College with a degree in Banking and Finance. He was employed as a salesman for Goal Technical Fire Services. Brian was an active member of the Poca Community Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Safety Officer, Treasure, and a member of the Board of Directors. Brian served over 25 years in the fire service as a firefighter with the Institute Volunteer Fire Department, former instructor with the West Virginia University Fire Service Extension and West Virginia Public Service Training. Brian was an active member of the Collis P. Huntington Railroad Historical Society for 26 years where he held the position of Board Member, President, and Safety Team Member. He also was involved with Operation Lifesaver of West Virginia and an Assistant Boy Scout Leader for Boy Scout Troop 68. The family would like to thank special friends Andrew Westwood (Andie MacIvor, fiancé) and Chad Smarr who cared for him during his illness. A celebration of Brian’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday March 27, 2024, at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans with the Rev. Doug McComas officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park Saint Albans with Firefighter honors. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
