Charles James "Chuck" Case

Charles James “Chuck” Case, age 68, of St. Albans—formerly of Gassaway, West Virginia, and Queens, New York—passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, surrounded by family at Teays Valley Center under the care of Kanawha Hospice Care. Born August 27, 1957, in Queens, New York, Chuck was the son of the late Leland Ray Case and Loretta Elizabeth Baer Case. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Jean Case of Staten Island, New York, and his stepson, Christopher Michael Boggs of St. Albans. Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Butler-Case; his son, Andrew Case of Oklahoma; his daughter, Katherine Case of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and his stepson, Richard S. Boggs (Veronica) of Wheeling. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Jaley Ann Braley of St. Albans, and great grandson, Bryson Clark of Nitro. Chuck spent his early years in New York before his family moved to Braxton County, West Virginia, during his senior year of high school. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Glenville State College and a Master’s degree in Education Leadership from West Virginia University. He began his teaching career at Braxton County Middle School, where he ultimately served as Assistant Principal. Chuck later stepped away from education to work in internet technology, providing solutions for medical offices. He eventually returned to the classroom with Kanawha County Schools and retired as a Math and Science teacher at Sissonville Middle School. Chuck was a devoted supporter of the Scouting program serving as a Buckskin Council Webelos Den leader and mentor. A proud patriot and dedicated educator, he joined the United States Air Force Auxiliary’s Civil Air Patrol in Charleston, where he served for 18 years as webmaster for both the West Virginia Wing and the Charleston Composite Squadron. He trained and earned the role of Character Development Instructor, guiding youth ages 12 to 21 through thoughtful discussions on issues facing young people. He also became search and rescue qualified and generously offered free math tutoring to cadets. His lifelong mission was to help young people build the knowledge, character, and confidence needed to become responsible citizens and future leaders, especially in aviation and aerospace. A service honoring Chuck’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Bartlett Nichols Funeral Home, with Pastor Randall “Randy” Elsea officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at Cunningham Memorial Park.
