Danvil Clayton Newhouse

Danvil Clayton Newhouse 87 of St. Albans moved into his home away from home at Kanawha Place in November of 2023 and from there he went to his eternal home to be with the Lord Friday, August 14th, 2026. Danvil was born August 15th, 1938, in a cellar top at the head of the holler on Grapevine Road in Sissonville, WV to the late Clyde and Veval Newhouse. He was also preceded in death by his wife Elsie Mae Newhouse, son Thomas Clayton Newhouse, and brother Dale Newhouse. He was a hardworking, wise, and dependable man who took great pride in providing for his family and serving others. He proudly served his country as an Army veteran and was a dedicated member of Painters Local Union 970 and the American Legion in St. Albans. He spent many years working at Libby-Owens-Ford Glass Company, where he remained employed until the plant closed. His strong work ethic, wisdom, and willingness to help others were qualities that those who knew him admired and respected. Above all, he was a faithful member of Lower Falls Baptist Church, where his faith in God was an important part of his life. He will be remembered for his strength, wisdom, hard work, service to his country, and, most of all, the love he had for his family. Danvil is survived by his sisters, Velma Edens of Charleston and Joan Baldwin of Sissonville; his brother, Freeman Newhouse (Pauline) of Sissonville; his daughters, Lora Mae Bacchus of Culloden and Tammy Myers (Steve) of St. Albans; and his daughter-in-law, April Newhouse of St. Albans. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tina Young (James) of Culloden, Elizabeth (Anthony) of Hurricane, Travis Myers of St. Albans, and Tyler Newhouse of St. Albans; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A very special thank you to the staff at Kanawha Place and to Hospice Care for their compassion and support. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor DaVontae Edwards and Pastor Jim Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Sissonville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
