Delma Marie Lewis

Delma Marie Lewis, 85, born September 15, 1939 on Morris Creek in Clendenin, came to rest in the arms of our Lord April 18, 2025 at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston, after a very long and courageous fight against multiple health issues. She joins her parents, Bruce Porter and Lulia Bryant Evans; sisters, Bonnie Strickland and Lora Phillips; brothers, Billy Porter Evans, Hazel James Evans and Ricky Elvis Evans. Delma began working at the Southern Kitchen in Kanawha City as a young woman of 18. After marrying, she moved to Jacksonville, Florida and continued to grow her family. She drove a school bus for several years in Duval County. After that she worked as a nurse Assistant at Baptist Medical Center in downtown Jacksonville, until she returned to Bomont in 1981 with two of her four daughters, Lula and Ada. She held several small jobs over the years that allowed her to be home when she needed to be until she left Bomont. In 1990 she moved to Kanawha City and began working at Mountaineer Medical Supplies. She also worked for the Charleston Town Center and the Marriott Hotel simultaneously until she ended her working career when her grandson Evan and then her granddaughter, Katie, were born to be a full-time babysitter for them. She loved her grandchildren with her whole heart. Those left to cherish her memories include her daughters, Pier Angeli Lewis of Virginia Beach, VA, Lula Francis Lewis of Jacksonville, FL, Sara Lynn Mack (Wilbur Johnson) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Ada Marie Kennedy (Roger) of St. Albans; grandchildren, Traci, HP, TJ, Brandon, Brandi, Evan and Katie; several nieces and nephews; sisters, Louvena Evans of Bomont, Dolly Woodard of Sanderson, FL and Peggy Evans of Bomont; brother, Howard Evans of Charleston; and many extended family and friends. Delma loved gardening, and working in the dirt with her flowers – everywhere she went she planted flowers to forever leave her mark, watching the hummingbirds, quilting/ sewing, sitting on the front porch and listening to her windchimes. Her greatest treasure was spending time with her grandchildren that lived close. She loved watching them in school activities and playing their chosen sports. A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral home. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
