Diania Sue Dunlap

Diania Sue Dunlap passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at the age of 75, after a long illness. Born on March 17, 1951, to Theodore and Mary Lekas. Diania grew up in Charleston, WV with her grandmother Kathleen (Kak) Lekas, parents, Ted and Mary, and later her stepfather, Dick Ash. She was preceded by her husband, Louie Dunlap, sister, Denise Brewer, and sister-in-law, Misti Ash. Diania is survived by her son, Tony Dunlap, and wife Shannon; daughter, Kista Whitney, and her husband Bill; her brothers, Mike (Jackie)Lekas, Scott (Julie) Ash and Mark Ash; her sisters, Annette (Warren) Burns, Cathy (John) Linville, and Sadaria (Doug) Shinault. Her grandchildren, Aaron Dunlap, Cole Whitney and his wife Kenzie, Clay Whitney and his wife Kendal, Madeline Dunlap, and five great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Diania attended St. Albans High School, graduating in 1959, and went on to graduate from the WV State Police Academy. She dedicated her career to law enforcement, serving with distinction as a Corporal with the South Charleston Police Department until her retirement. Known for her eclectic, elaborate collections and unfiltered humor, Diania’s warmth and wit endeared her to many, as did her unwavering love for family and friends. Her family extends profound gratitude to Kanawha Hospice Care, and special thanks to Angie Allawat, RN, and Amber White, Home Health Aide. They also wish to acknowledge Shining Star Personal Care Home in Teays Valley for their exceptional care over the last two years, with heartfelt thanks to Kerri Savilla and her staff, Kim, Rachel, Karen, Sherry, Amber, and Sunshine. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Diania’s life service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans with Pastor Craig Gillenwater officiating. Burial will be in Hanna-Neeley Cemetery, Charleston. Friends may visit with the family from 10 to 11:00 am prior to the funeral service.
