Freeda Mae Womack Maddox

Freeda Mae Womack Maddox walked into the arms of Jesus on May 26, 2024, and was greeted by her husband, Harold, her parents, H. E. (Ned) and Amanda Womack, and her siblings - Rachel, Hazel, Homer, Phyllis, and Jennings. Born on March 1, 1931, Freeda valued family, faith, and hard work. Any interaction with Freeda would have been evidence of those values. Harold and Freeda established their home in Scott Depot where they raised their 3 children- Alan (Rose) Maddox, Becky (Robin) Crouch and Marilyn (Rich) McClure. They devoted their time to providing for them and teaching them about God’s love and how to love others. Seven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild will continue that legacy: Michael (Terra) Maddox- Austin, Taylor, Brianna, (Jackson) VanScoy- David; Angela Maddox; Sarah (Ryan) Rhodes- Grayce, Briar, Hadley and Harper; Bethany (Justin) Cox - Jase, Lucas and Nolan; Brian (Sara) McClure- Declan, Asher and Eli; Todd (Erin) McClure - Jehiah and Abi; and Scott (Katie) McClure- Sadie and Keely. Freeda enjoyed being with children. She taught at Scott Teays Elementary and then was preschool director at First Baptist Church of St. Albans. She enjoyed having sleepovers with the grandchildren, planning crafts, and other activities for them. As a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, and Teays Valley Baptist Association camp director she taught many children about Jesus and the importance of knowing God’s Word. Freeda loved her church and serving with others. Participating in the women’s groups and singing in the choir allowed her to use her gifts and talents for the Lord. She instilled in her children and grandchildren a love for music and modeled the importance of using your talents to serve the Lord. Freeda enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family. Each of the family have a quilt or pillow that she made. Gardening and canning allowed her to prepare delicious and abundant meals for family and others who stopped to visit. Her home was the site of many family gatherings and reunions with cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family expresses appreciation for the loving care given to Freeda by staff for more than 2 years at The Wyngate Senior Living Community of Barboursville and recently the staff of Hospice of Huntington. In lieu of flowers the family requests your consideration of a gift in memory of Freeda to The Wyngate Senior Living Community of Barboursville Activity Fund or the First Baptist Church of St. Albans Children’s Ministry. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday, May 30, at First Baptist Church of St. Albans. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joel Harpold officiating.
