Gary D. Austin

Gary D. Austin, 77, of Charleston, WV passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023. He was a graduate of Charleston High School, class of 1964, where he was awarded Mr. West Virginia Future Business Leaders of America. He earned a B.S. from Morris Harvey College and an M.B.A. in finance and accounting from West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. Gary spent 37 years in the banking industry where he served as President of Peoples Bank of Richwood and Regional President of First Community Bank. He also worked at Kanawha Valley Bank and Chemical Bank and Trust. In addition to his banking career, he worked at the accounting and consulting firm, Arnett and Foster. He volunteered to serve on the boards of several charities in WV. Gary was a veteran of the Unites States Army and attended Bible Center Church. He was born at Charleston and was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Lee Austin Goins and sister, Connie Sue White. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, June Austin, son Chris Austin and daughter-in-law Angie Austin; daughter Robin Austin Ritchie and son-in-law Brad Ritchie; five grandchildren, Haley Austin, Caleb Austin, Ty Austin, Trey Ritchie, and Evan Ritchie; his brother William Harrison (Peggy) and his sister Linda Carreon; many nieces and nephews; and far too many friends to count. We are a family of faith who believe he is safe with God and joined by members of the family that have gone on before and have welcomed him with joy and open arms. His indomitable spirit, bright smile, and quick laughter left an indelible mark on all who met him and his memory will live on as a blessing to all who knew him. Memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 3, 2023 at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans with Pastor Matt Friend officiating.
