James Walton "Jim" Perry

James Walton “Jim” Perry, 81, of Hurricane formally of St. Albans went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 29, 2024, at his residence with his family by his side. He was born in South Charleston, West Virginia to the late Roy Sebert Perry and Mary Elizabeth Cassidy Perry. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Naomi “Jean” Perry Barnette. Jim was retired from the banking industry getting his start at the old Bank of St. Albans, One Valley Bank, BB&T and Huntington Bank. After his retirement Jim went to work part-time for Bartlett Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans and Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane where he enjoyed seeing a lot of his old friends. He was a member of First Baptist Church, St. Albans. Jim was a graduate of St. Albans High School, class of 1961, he graduated from the University of Virginia School of Retail Banking. He was a veteran serving in the US Air Force. Jim was past president of the St. Albans Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, past president of the Kanawha Valley Football officials, past president of the Kanawha Valley Umpire Association, he served 20 years with the Southern Conference Football Officials, he was inducted into the West Virginia Sports Legends Hall of Fame in 2022, Artie, WV and was a member of the Cherry River Navy, Richwood, WV. Jim was an avid lover of trains and loved to travel with the love of his life Debbie and his longtime friends who were like family, Bill & Diane Ellis, Mike & Barbara Ellis, Steve & Betty Cox and Bill & Myrtle Smith. He was an avid fan of the Red Dragons, Hurricane Redskins, Mountaineers and the Thundering Herd. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 55 years, Deborah Jane Robinson Perry; daughters, Jill Elizabeth Sypolt (Mark) and Jeana Lynn Johnson (Johnny); grandchildren, Madisyn & Caden Johnson, Cassidy & Kaley Dawson, and Leland & Ben Sypolt; niece, Clydean Swagger; grand nephew, Zachary (Victoria) Swagger; great nieces, Malia and Tamera; great nephews, Matthew and Mason as well as many other loving family members. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of St. Albans with the Rev. Joel M. Harpold officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of St. Albans. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Anita Yeager, St. Mary’s Oncology and HospiceCare for all their love that they showed Jim and his family during a difficult time and also the support from many family and friends.
