Janett Lee Casto

Janett Lee Casto, 86, of St. Albans, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 in St. Albans, WV. Janett was born September 24, 1937, in Gallipolis Ohio to the late Cecil and Thelma Cotton. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. John Erwin Casto, her granddaughter, Abigail Casto and her nephew, Randel Hamilton. Surviving family members are her daughters and sons-in-law, Allison Lee and Robin Breeden and Ashley Janett Burgener, son and daughter-in-law, John Cotton and Amy Casto. Also surviving are grandchildren, Haley (Breeden) Yost, Ryan and Daniel Burgener, Nathan and Cate Breeden, JC, Blake, and Seth Casto, great grandchildren Declan, Finley and Quinn Yost, and nephew Richard Hamilton. Jannett graduated from Gallia Academy, class of 1955. She then entered Marshall College as a music major. She was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority and the school choral programs. It was there at Marshall College she met John Casto, her husband of sixty-one years. She accompanied John to Memphis, TN, then onto Verdun, France while he served in US Army. They returned to her husband’s hometown of St. Albans, WV. There they devoted their time to their growing family, opened an optometry practice and volunteered on numerous committees in St. Albans. Jannett lived a life of community service, serving on the St. Albans City Council for twelve years. She continued her political career at Voters Registration of Kanawha County while pursuing and obtaining her Master’s degree in Political Science from Marshall University. After years of serving the citizens of WV she retired as Deputy Secretary of State. She was always a devoted Grand Jan but after retirement her life revolved around her grandchildren. Graveside service was held on Friday, February 1, 2024, at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
