John Allen Johnson Jr.

John Allen Johnson Jr., 52, of St. Albans, WV passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026. John was Public Works Director for the city of St. Albans and a proud longtime St. Albans Red Dragon and McKinley Trojan. He was also a member of the St. Albans Moose Lodge #868, and while spending his time there he played in a Dart League and participated in tournaments across the Kanawha Valley. He was fond of Traveling, Fishing, Hunting, FOOD and always ready for Football Season even when the Dallas Cowboys would lose every game; and the first to be at Morgantown ready to cheer for the Mountaineers. In addition, many knew him for volunteering to coach sports around St. Albans such as little league, Middle School and High School Football and for this reason he was a huge mentor towards young boys and girls across the city. He was the light that would walk into a room, always the one to bust out a joke in a serious situation while also being a shoulder to cry on. His view on being optimistic, looking at the best in everyone, his ability to make friends with anyone and his Self-less heart is what we all will cherish and bring with us through the steps remaining in this lifetime. He loved his family and friends very deeply, and now he is with the LORD. He wouldn’t want us as his friends and family to mourn him but to celebrate him as loud as the Mountaineer chant is at Morgantown home games, so let us cheer him on while he is watching down on us. Those left to cherish his memory are children Cheyenne Landis (Lougan) of St. Albans and Tyler Johnson of St. Albans; his companion, Heather Lucas of St. Albans; his mother, Renita Cottrell of St. Albans; his sister, Amanda Walker of St. Albans; his brother, Michael Johnson of St. Albans; his grandchildren, Laiken Landis and Auberly Landis both of St. Albans; and a host of extended family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm Monday, August 10, 2026 at McKinley Middle School, St. Albans. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until service time.
