Johnnie E. Hanshaw, 84, of Tornado passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 6:12 am. The angels started to sing as Johnnie left this world to be reunited with the love of his life Arvada “Lil” Hanshaw. Also known as Uncle Johnnie, Dad and Pawpaw. Whatever you knew him by, you will always remember his love for everyone he is a hero to so many, his wise words of wisdom that he taught so many and his love and kindness will never be forgot. Johnnie spent many years working at Valley Clinic and Venture Lanes Bowling Alley. But his most proudest was the 23 years he served for his country in the US Air Force as a Tech Sgt. He spent time in the Korean War and Vietnam. He was preceded in death by the woman he loved so dear Arvada Lil Hanshaw, his parents, Elmer Chelton and Georgia Meeks Hanshaw along with 11 sisters and brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Terissa E. Gibson (David) of Seaford, DE; son, Gaylen E. Hanshaw (Charlene) of Charleston,; his granddaughter that he raised like his own Christina Dunlap (Shawn) of Tornado, Nicole Mumford (David), David Gibson (Sandy) of Rising Sun, MD, Chad Gibson (Kristy) of Forest Hill, MD, Keith Gibson (Kerri) of New Oxford. PA, Travis Hanshaw (companion Jana Gatten) of Culloden and Eric Hanshaw (Susan) of St. Albans. Pawpaw had a total of 23 great grandchildren, Allie, Katie, Kayla, Alyssa, Lilly, Hanna, Noah, Jordan, Mitchell, David, Gavin, Peyton, Genna, Brandon, Haylee, Angel, Andrew, Lacy, Kayla, Cody, Krislyn, Danny and Chrissy. He also had 6 great great grandchildren, Bryce, Kinsley, Adalie, Christian, Ryder and Xander. Pawpaw you will always be our hero, you will be missed and your stories and memories will always be cherished. You are my sunshine. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans with Pastor Wilson Hudson officiating. Burial will be in Teays Hill Cemetery, St. Albans. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home.
