Lawrence L. Smith, Jr.

Lawrence L. Smith, Jr., 89, of St. Albans went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Hubbard Hospice House, West, South Charleston. He was born at South Charleston to the late Lawrence L. Smith, Sr. and Susie Virginia Arrington Smith. Larry was a member of Gateway Church in St. Albans. He was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, class of 1951. He was a proud Navy Veteran and served on the USS Missouri 1951-54. He was a former firefighter/investigator for the City of Charleston; Ford Motor Plant in Loraine, Ohio and retired from Columbia Gas Transmissions in Charleston. He was a former part time employee of Quick Delivery Service; Putnam General Hospital, and Safety Director for City of St. Albans. Larry was actively involved in his community, having served as past President of St. Albans Western Little League, Member of the St. Albans Fraternal Order of Police Association and Police Civil Service Commission. He believed and loved the Lord. He was a kind, loving and generous man, an animal lover and a hard worker who was the steady quiet strength of the family. Adored by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren for his silly sense of humor and fun loving personality. His life was an example of unconditional, ever present love and devotion. Left to cherish his memory by his loving wife of 68 years, Rosalie Webb Smith; daughters, Vicki Allen (Danny) and Barbara Hughes (Ron); son, Larry Smith III (Bonnie); sister, Evelyn Kelley; brother, Jim Smith and Ron Smith (Vicki). Also surviving are his loving grandchildren, Jason Creamer (Catherine), Jimmy Watters (Shelby), Amber McCormick (Jonathan), Misty Richardson (Ken), Kacey Kilkenny (Jake), Kristyn Smith Fruit (Deandre), Allison Smith and 13 great grandchildren; his beloved Fur Baby “Mickey” and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday July 28, 2023 at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans with Jonathan McCormick officiating. Burial will follow in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.
