Lewis Gene Thompson

Lewis Gene Thompson, 81, of St. Albans, went home to his Heavenly rest on October 1, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, O.C. and Hazel Thompson of St. Albans, and his beloved siblings, Helen and Jim Grass, Carl and Trudy Thompson, Chloriene and Jim Stiefel, Opal and Fred Scherrep, Evelynn and Jack Wells, and in-laws L.T. and Ethel Halstead. Born in Charleston, WV on March 14, 1942, he grew up in St. Albans, WV and was an active member of the Highlawn Presbyterian Church. Graduating from St. Albans High School in 1960, he was active in many activities, Editor of the School yearbook, attended WV Boy’s State, is a Boy Scout Troop 146 Eagle Scout and Charleston DeMolay Master Councilor and Chevalier. Gene graduated from Morris Harvey College (University of Charleston) in 1967. He retired from Union Carbide with 41 years of service with a career in the Information Services Department. His community activities included being a member of the Cross Lanes Lions Club, SA Library Board, SA Eastern Little League and SA Streetscape project. He was a member of Washington Lodge #58, Charleston Scottish Rite, a member of the World Famous Beni Kedem Oriental Band, Boy Scout Troop 146 committee, and a Member of the St. Andrew United Methodist Church and Sunday School Teacher of the Crusader Class. Gene began raising DeCoverly English Setter Gun Dogs. Hunting Upland Game Birds with his dogs and fellow hunters, Dave, Ken, Frank, Lester, Pete and Sam. Hunting the Great Lake States and the Appalachian Mountains, enjoying the great outdoors and the work of his English Setters. Gene is survived by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 60 years Judi, his sons Matthew of St. Albans and Andrew of Cross Lanes, his precious granddaughter Kelsey Maher of Florida and greatgrandchildren Link, Aurora, Daisy and Oliver, and his other precious granddaughter Olivia Thompson of St. Albans and greatgrandchildren Eden Luke and Evelyn. Also, the best Nieces and Nephews an Uncle could have – Karl, Rosie, Mark, Pam, Melissa, Melody, Chuck, Vicki, Michelle, Shelly, Stacy and L.T. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans with Reverend Brian Plum officiating. Entombment will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2pm at the funeral home.
