Robert William Stump

Robert William Stump of Dunbar, WV was born on June 28, 1935 to Jesse and Ethel Stump in Grantsville, WV. He departed this life for his heavenly home on August 24, 2026 with his bride, Dolores, of 66 years by his side and holding his hand on this side as Jesus was taking hold of his other hand to usher him “home.” “Bob” or “Poppy” was a 1955 graduate of Sissonville High School and was a proud member of the only undefeated football team ever known to Sissonville High School. He was drafted in the Army not long after graduation and remained a proud Army Veteran till his very last breath. He developed his love for sign painting at an early age. His artwork can still be seen throughout the Kanawha Valley and he particularly loved taking care of all of the score boards Pepsi had at local high schools. He retired from Pepsi Cola. He was a member of the Charleston Mountain Mission church where he served on the Board of Directors, served as the Youth Director for many years, was the first face you would see when you entered the door as an usher and greeter and was one of the Churches Mr. Fix-it’s. He also previously served on the Board of Directors of the Mountain Mission, Inc. and was presently recognized as Board Member Emeritus. He is survived by his loving wife, Dolores Ann Stump; brothers: Sam Stump, Harold Stump and Donald Stump; children: Scott Stump, Robin and Chris Lassak; and grandson and the pride and joy of his life, Noah Fulks and his bride, Hannah Fulks as well as a whole host of nieces, nephews and very special church family that he helped shepherd through the years. He was greeted into eternity by his parents, Jesse and Ethel and siblings, Albert, Ila, Estril, Barbara and Katherine. A special thank you to the Veteran’s Administration for everything they do on a daily basis to aid our service men and women and their families as well as the amazing caregivers from Visiting Angels and finally, Hospice. No words can express the gratitude our family has for the kindness and love shown to us during this season of loss. And, to Benny Randolph, who brought hot dogs and brown beans every week and was always there ready and eager to pray with Poppy till the very last breath, your love and respect will never be forgotten. A service to celebrate Robert’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 31, 2026 at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, 409 Sixth Ave., St. Albans with Pastor Ronnie Nida officiating. Burial will follow in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar with Military Honors.
