Shawn Elizabeth Abbott

Shawn Elizabeth Abbott, 66, of Nitro, West Virginia, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 3rd, 2025, after a long illness. She was born on March 21, 1959, to Ann Paxton and Dale Miller at Thomas Memorial Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia. She was the eldest of six siblings. Shawn and her future husband, Curt Abbott, were born at the same hospital just two days apart. Their paths crossed unexpectedly, sparking a deep and meaningful connection that grew over time. They officially began their journey together on March 15, 1983, and after many years of shared experiences and unwavering love, they married on December 30, 2016. Throughout their 42 years together, Shawn and Curt remained nearly inseparable, sharing a bond built on love, trust, and companionship. Their relationship was a testament to enduring commitment and devotion. Together, they raised three sons, creating a family rooted in devotion, laughter, and shared memories. Shawn was a mother first and foremost, always willing to sacrifice anything so her three boys could have their needs and wants met. She was fiercely protective and encouraged them to succeed in life, her pride in their accomplishments were evident to all who knew her. She shared a special and unique bond with each of her sons, always ready to provide whatever they needed—whether it was a word of encouragement, a gentle touch of love, or a perfectly timed “Mommy loves you.” Her unwavering devotion and nurturing spirit left a lasting impact on her family, embodying the true meaning of unconditional love. She also devoted her life to her husband, Curt, building a bond founded on compromise, forgiveness, and love. Together, they stood by each other through life's storms, setting a powerful example of love and self-sacrifice—values she hoped her children would carry forward. Her unwavering dedication and strength served as a shining example of what it means to love unconditionally and to persevere through life's challenges. Shawn is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Cecil and Molly (Nanny) Dragoo; her mother, Gertrude Ann Paxton; her father, Dale Miller; her eldest son, Christopher McCarty; her mother-in-law, Janet Abbott; and her uncle, Cecil Dragoo Jr. She is survived by her loving husband, Curt Abbott; her sons, Corey McCarty (Michael Hill)) and Matthew Abbott; her sister, Dale-Ann Pringle; her brother, Glen Paxton; her grandchildren, Jeremiah (Maci Elmore) and Zoey McCarty, Wyatt and Carter Abbott; her great-grandsons, Greyson, Elijah, and Isaiah; her nephew, Robert Ferrell (Tiffany); her niece, Sierra Ferrell; and her beloved dog, Dixie. Shawn’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Nitro Independent Baptist Church in Nitro, West Virginia. The service will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.
