Carol June Gunter Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Carol June (Atkinson) Gunter, born August 6, 1929, has passed away at the age of 92 on October 14, 2021. Carol Gunter as a child lived in Burnwell, Leewood, Nellis, Huntington, and Charleston. She graduated from South Charleston High school and attended Morris Harvey (University of Charleston). She worked for many years for AT&T in many parts of the country. She has always been active in her churches by singing in and directing many choirs over the years. She has been a loving caregiver throughout her life by raising her youngest brother and sister, two children, grandchildren, and many more. In her later years, she loved to go for walks, talk to the community, and reminisce at the wonderful outdoor scenery at her assisted living. Preceded in death by her parents Rudolph & Anna Atkinson, brothers David (Maude), Donald (Bea), and Paul Atkinson, husband Jack Gunter, and children Lee Taylor and Dawn Gunter. Carol Gunter is survived by her sister Libby (Ron) Myers, her grandchildren Matthew and Hannah Decanio, wonderful niece Donna (Lee) Martina, sister in law, Connie Atkinson, and a host of loving nieces and nephews. A Funeral service will be held for Carol at 2:00 pm Sunday October 17, 2021 at the Upper Mausoleum Chapel, Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, with Pastor Cherrie Sizemore officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Kanawha Hospice at 1606 Kanawha Boulevard West, Charleston, WV 25387.
