Hughes Booher

March 10, 1939 - November 7, 2019

Hughes Booher, 80, of St. Albans, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2019 at his residence. Born on March 10, 1939 in Moundsville, West Virginia to the late Wilford Jackson and Virginia Hughes Booher. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Tim Booher; daughter, Kimberly Walters; son, Shawn Underwood. Hughes is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn J. Booher, brother, Jon Booher (Gai) of Advance, NC; daughters, Jennifer Booher of Cincinnati, OH, Bethany Booher of Charleston, Tammy Walters of Houston, TX, Cindy Underwood Meadows of St. Albans; 7 grandchildren and One great grandson. Hughes graduated from Moundsville High School and Marshall University, class of 1962 where he played basketball and lettered in men’s tennis. He was also active in Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternity. After commissioning and three years in the US Navy aboard the USS Vancouver (LPD-2) homeported in San Diego, CA, Hughes then graduated with a Master in Education degree from West Chester, PA University, 1968. His professional life included Sperry UNIVAC in Washington, DC, Carbon Fuel Company, Oglebay Norton Co., Dickinson Fuel Co., and the WV Development Office. He was founding President of the WV Technology Association and lobbied too for the WV Landlord Association. He was also a substitute teacher for the Kanawha County Board of Education. Membership included the Marshall “M” Club and Big Green, the Charleston Rotary, Edgewood Country Club and Charleston Tennis Club. He was active in the WV Senior Sports, the Kanawha County Republican Executive Committee, the Center Right Coalition and St. Albans Historical Society. Churches attended included Christ Church United Methodist, Maranatha Fellowship and St. Peters United Methodist. Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Maranatha Fellowship, 2910 Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans WV, with Pastor Terry Hogue officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Moundsville Boys of Summer, a 501(c)3 educational non-profit, c/o Don Yost, 19 Cherokee Drive, Moundsville, WV 26041.
