John M. Poulson, 82, of St. Albans went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 19, 2019 at CAMC General Division, Charleston. He was born in Sioux City, Iowa to the late David Lewis and Ferne Mildred Masters Poulson. David owned a furniture business, from which John possessed may treasured pieces. He graduated from Iowa State College in 1959, not surprisingly, on the Dean’s list, and a member of Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternity. He later received his master’s degree from Marshall University and also served in the U.S. Army as a 2nd LT, Signal Corps. John was retired from Union Carbide Corp. Tech Center with 40 years of service. His career had him traveling to many regions’ worldwide. The extensive swizzle stick and matchbook collection tracks his path. He was a former Deacon, Elder and Treasurer for Highlawn Presbyterian Church, St. Albans where he was a member for over 50 years. In addition, John served on the Board of Directors for the 29th Avenue North Home Owners Association, Cherry Grove, SC., a community he also loved, where he kept a second home. He graduated from Iowa State College in 1959 and he received his Master’s Degree from Marshall University. He served in the the US Army as a 2nd LT, signal Corps. Surviving are his daughters, Amy Aston and Andrea Elkins both of St. Albans; grandchildren, Mark, Johnathan and Aaron; one great granddaughter. In addition, John had a wealth of friends in the community, his church and the neighborhood that were also family, especially the entire Perry family. We must not forget the grand-dog, Matilde, who he loved to see each day and spoil rotten with treats and butt rubs. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Highlawn Presbyterian Church, 2501 Washington Ave., St. Albans with the Rev. Nancy Didway officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans. In lieu of flowers John requested donations to Christ Kitchen, 405 “B” Street, St. Albans, WV 25177.
