Joseph H. “Joe” Harris, 82, of St. Albans went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February10, 2019 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston. He was born at Scott Depot to the late Elba Wade and Lina Mae Bird Harris. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris Lee Harris; grandson, Sean Harris. Joe retired from John Amos Power Plant in 1995 with 22 years of service, as a Senior Lab Tech. Joe started the breakfast club for retirees from John Amos and he headed up the retirement committee for John Amos for 5 years. He was also a former employee of Goodrich Gulf Rubber Company. He is a 60 year member of the Gateway Christian Church, St. Albans and a graduate of St. Albans High School, class of 1954. Joe started the St. Albans Class luncheon and he loved his class. He was a US Army veteran. Joe coached the Little League Baseball and Babe Ruth Baseball League at Hurricane for 14 years. His favorite hobbies was hunting, fishing and going on vacation. Surviving are his sons, Chris Harris (Teresa) of Hurricane and Scott Harris (Wendy) of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Inez Fizer of Hurricane. Also surviving are his loving grandchildren, Josh, Jordan and Haleigh. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Gateway Christian Church, 422 B Street, St. Albans with Pastor David Stauffer officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
