Maxine Eva Hughes Bruce Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Maxine Eva Hughes Bruce, 80, of St. Albans was called home peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 1, 2019 after an extended illness. She was the first born child to Maxwell and Freda Esta Miller Hughes on September 7, 1938 in Charleston. She was also preceded in death by husband of 46 years, Arthur Roger Bruce; sister, Imogene Hughes; brother, Thomas Hughes and her favorite uncle Junior Hughes. Maxine was a graduate of South Charleston High School, class of 1957. She was a homemaker and retired from K-mart, Patrick Street Store. She is survived by her daughter and caregiver, Robyn Steffen Ashworth (Mark), daughter, Donna Grubb (Dale); Step-sons, Arthur R. Bruce, Jr. (Joanne) of New Hampshire, Billy Ray Bruce and Duncan Lee Bruce (Shirley) both of Texas. She was also survived by her loving grandchildren, Jennifer Pickens (Chad) affectionately known as “Sugar”, Kirsten Kennedy (Justin), Nicole Steffen (Robert Schultz) and Justin Steffen, Stephani McCallister, Cadi Grubb, Tiffany Bruce, Robert Bruce, James, Jonathan, Joey Bruce, Brandon Bruce, adopted grandson, Jesse Schiable she loved him as one of her own, great grandchildren, Dakoda Pickens, Taylor and Sophia Schultz, her little baby doll, Katelyn and Ayden Bruce; numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, aunts and uncles that she always spoke fondly of. We all knew we were loved. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans with Pastor Daniel Dent officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may visit with the family from 11 to 12:00 pm prior to the funeral service.
