Rex Allen Mitchell

August 26, 1950 - December 17, 2020

Rex Allen Mitchell, 70, born and raised in St. Albans, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020 at the Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia. Rex was born on Aug 26, 1950 to the late Roy Mitchell and Eula Mitchell (Blankenship). Rex was a graduate of St. Albans High and a long-time member of Painters Union Local 970DC53. Like all of us Rex had his demons and better angels; he was unique, a lot of fun and could always be counted on in a pinch. We will all miss Rex. He loved to share his woodworking skills with family and friends, to play cards, making bad jokes, old Mustangs, fishing, and the Coal River. Most of all, Rex loved his daughter, his son-in-law, his grandchildren, and his large extended family, and family gatherings. His presence and love will always be a part of his family. Rex was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Eula Mitchell, his brothers Rodger and Doyle Mitchell, and two grandchildren, Ishara and William. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Mitchell, and Lawrence Bullock; grandchild, Bobbi Jo Mitchell, his ex-wife Jinny Mitchell, his brothers Jerry and Mike Mitchell, many in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews and his dog Fuzz, and his two “Three Foot” cats Tick & Tock. Due to COVID restrictions Rex will be cremated with a private ceremony. A gathering will be scheduled at a future, more appropriate date, to celebrate his life and what he brought to ours.
