Barbara Ann Dunn

Barbara Ann (Allen) Dunn, peacefully passed away in her sleep at the English Meadows Assisted Living Facility on August 7, 2023, comforted by her faithful husband. Born on January 5, 1939, in Alum Creek, West Virginia, Barbara was the cherished first child and daughter of Lester Jackson Allen and Ruby Arnold, and preceded by her brother, Jack Allen and brother-in-law Jon Amos. After graduating from South Charleston High School in 1957, Barbara worked at Union Carbide in Charleston, West Virginia where she started on a beautiful journey of love and companionship when she married James Robert Dunn in March of 1961, which has lasted the remaining 62 of her life. She briefly lived in Fayetteville, North Carolina as Robert served in the Army and she completed a beautician’s certificate. They welcomed their first son, Michael Wayne, while living there. Resettling in the Charleston area, Barbara and Robert welcomed their second son, Gregory Alan and Barbara continued a wonderful life as a homemaker living near extended family. In 1968, Barbara and her family relocated to Teays Valley where she became an avid member of the Teays Valley Roadrunner’s Camping Club and the Beechwood Garden Club. Barbara and family have enjoyed many camping vacations locally at FMC and at campgrounds all over West Virginia, along with destinations along their route to Florida, where Barbara and Robert preferred to spend their winter months. Barbara is survived by her husband, Robert Dunn; siblings, Dee Amos and Jim (Susie) Allen; children, Michael (Naomi) and Gregory (Suzy); grandchildren, Shane (Heather), Alex, Shannon and Katy; and great grandchildren, Abdullah, Ibrahim, Nora, Dicee, Tristyn, and Emma. Barbara's genuine warmth, kind heart, and unwavering love will be remembered and missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, exemplified through her roles as a wife, mother, sister, and friend. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were touched by her presence. In this time of grieving, we unite to celebrate the life of Barbara Dunn and find solace in the beautiful memories she bestowed upon us. Barbara's impact on our lives will forever be cherished, and her memory will continue to inspire us all. May her soul rest in eternal peace. A private graveside service was held at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
