Barbara J. "BJ" Linkenhoger

"It is more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20:35 Barbara J. “BJ” Linkenhoger passed away April 27, 2025, at the age of 81 surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Huntington, WV, Barbara graduated from Dunbar High School before embarking on her career. After more than 40 years of loyal service, Barbara retired from Huntington Bank. Barbara truly knew that it was more blessed to give than to receive and it showed in her generous nature. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a beautiful soul who would help anyone, whether it was volunteering with the Women’s Club, taking a group of kids to a local nursing home to visit, or helping friends or family. Her generosity knew no bounds. Barbara enjoyed cheering on her favorite teams, although it was sometimes hard to tell based on her creative vocabulary when WVU wasn’t doing well! She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in sports and traveled far and wide to attend their events or streamed them when she could no longer attend. Sitting on her front porch drinking coffee and watching the wildlife wonder through the yard was another favorite pastime. Although she once had to fend off an aggressive doe with her iPad because it was attacking her dog, Ace. Barbara especially loved spending time with her family, friends, and her beloved Ragdoll cat, Frank. Although Barbara is gone, she will live in our hearts forever. She is survived by her husband of 58 years Donald E. Linkenhoger, Sr.; her children, Donald E. Linkenhoger, Jr. and wife Sabrina, Pam Bauman and husband Tim, Kaye Linkenhoger and husband Brian Vaill; her grandchildren, LaNette Whitehurst and husband Melvin, Evan and Andrew Linkenhoger, Charlie, Jake, and Eli Bauman; her great grandchildren, Ayva Kaye, Mason, and Maverick Whitehurst; and her siblings, Charles Johnson and wife Sharon, Vera Hendricks, and Frances Jarrett. Preceded in death by her parents Walter S. Johnson and Ruth L. Varner; her brother, Garry A. Lykins; and her beloved dog Ace. In lieu of flowers, please donate blood in Barbara’s name. A service to Celebrate the Life of Barbara will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
